No Distributing Station Next to Marquez School

I vehemently oppose DWP's proposed power distributing station next to Marquez Charter public school. DWP's consultants found the site's geological instability makes it "fatally flawed" for this inherently risky industrial facility. The lot's location in the highest fire severity zone, combined with historically proven fiery incidents at DWP facilities, brings unacceptable risks to the community and hundreds of children.
Putting permanent hazards next to an elementary school epitomizes bad policy and poor decision-making. Construction noise, traffic and air quality impacts will harm residences and school operations.
LAUSD's Board adopted a resolution opposing the proposal. LAUSD's policies prevent new schools next to such facilities. DWP should follow this safety precaution.
Instead of wasting tax payer money on a failed plan that has already been thoroughly vetted and rejected, I urge DWP to pursue alternatives-another location buffered from residences and sensitive uses, or less impactful technologies such as pole-top mini-substations.
DWP and the community have already agreed upon these alternatives. The recently installed pole tops work. It's time to take the site permanently off the table.
